Trend Technology Centre installation

Sustainability is at the heart of this modern vibrant academy, with its numerous low carbon features including extensive use of natural light, automatic ventilation systems and under floor heating. The various low carbon technologies were integrated with a comprehensive Trend Building Automation System which was designed, installed and commissioned by the Midlands division of the Four Seasons Group subsidiary, Berkeley Controls Group acting as principle sub-contractor to Kershaw Mechanical Services Ltd.

The building controls package was circa £200K and was based on Trend IQ3 series controls with the ability to fully integrate with the academies IT systems.

Much controversy has followed the academies programme established in 2000 to allow sponsors from the private and voluntary sectors to found new, all-ability schools funded directly by central government. Sponsor David Samworth, who heads a large food production and distribution business, had an interesting co-sponsor for this project — the Bishop of Leicester, this provided an unusual partnership to delivering a bold new education establishment to Leicester.

The inspirational design of this modern academy building provides a stimulating environment, offering 3-16 yrs education and extensive community facilities. The academy building is located in one of the most deprived areas of Leicester, but provides a bright airy feel with the vibrant use of colours throughout.

The academy specialises in business and food technology, it aims to inspire the ethos of healthy body, mind and spirit and this is reflected in the design of the voluminous, cheery, naturally lit dining hall, used by pupils, parents, staff and others for social interaction throughout the school day . The involvement of community is confirmed by the inclusion of the local church, with its timber ‘Drum’ marking the entrance to the school.
